Collaborative Mindfulness Painting!

Image
During the last week of school for 2016 one of the art activities on offer was collaborative mindfulness painting! We pushed all the art room tables together and rolled out a long sheet of paper (about 5 metres in length!) and students started painting a pattern, after 4 minutes we switched places and had to continue and add to the previous students' pattern. But the end of the lesson everyone had made it around once! I am saving this patterned background for a future display - it turned out pretty amazing!

Notans

The Year 5 and 6 students have been exploring the Japanese Art of Notan paper cutting. The term "Notan" is a Japanese word that means "light/ dark harmony." * Positive space is the area inside of an object * Negative space is the area around an object  * Contrast is the arrangement of opposite elements  (eg. light & dark, small & large shapes, rough & smooth texture)  The other art elements and design principles that the students were encouraged to think about in their Notan designs included balance, symmetry and composition.

The Year 3 and 4 students have been learning about the pop artist, George Rodrigue and his famous 'Blue Dog' artworks.  Artwork reflection I love this Starry Starry Night inspired background !
