Lunchtime Art Club

Image
The Year 1 and 2 students have been enjoying participating in the Term 2 Lunchtime Art Club. The students worked hard to create lots of purple, blue and green (cool coloured!) watercolour and crayon resist feathers. The Year 6 Art Captains put together all the feathers to create a giant collaborative wings mural which was inspired by the street artist, Kelsey Montague. Visit Kelsey Montague's website to see more of her beautiful street art murals:  http://kelseymontagueart.com

Recycled Art

Students in lunchtime Art Club have been a great help sorting and organising areas of the art room. Here are some projects we have created together using recycled materials from the art room.

Jackson Pollock Action Painting & Art Room Pillows!

Image
Woohooo! The time has come for me to do my bi-annual 'Performance Art' Unit with the Year 1 and 2 classes. I did this unit two years ago (with students who are now in Year 3 and 4) and it was an absolute hit with the students, it was SO much fun! I can't wait to see the excitement on the 1 and 2 students' faces this semester when we toss food on carpet - YES you read that correctly (Pro Hart inspired!) and drive monster trucks through paint (Jackson Pollock inspired!) It is going to be an amazing, exciting, wonderful (and maybe a little bit messy) Semester One in the Art Room for students in Years 1 and 2!!! I just love this photo! Two little artists enjoying Eric Carle books while relaxing on the 'action painted' art room pillows after a busy art lesson.

Welcome to Term 1 2017!

Hello and welcome back to Term 1 in the Art Room! I have plenty of exciting art projects planned for 2017 and can't wait to get started.

Collaborative Mindfulness Painting!

Image
During the last week of school for 2016 one of the art activities on offer was collaborative mindfulness painting! We pushed all the art room tables together and rolled out a long sheet of paper (about 5 metres in length!) and students started painting a pattern, after 4 minutes we switched places and had to continue and add to the previous students' pattern. But the end of the lesson everyone had made it around once! I am saving this patterned background for a future display - it turned out pretty amazing!

2016 Fete

Image
Here are some photos of the painted pots that each class created for the Fete silent auction. Here are the themes from each year level:  Preps: high five handprints from the preps! Year 1 and 2: Jackson Pollock action painting (year 1s: primary colours, year 2s: secondary colours) Year 3 and 4: Keith Haring pop art figures  Year 5: James Rizzi birds  Year 6: cactus and succulents  Thanks again to the lovely family members who donated potting mix and succulents to fill these beautiful pots. Congrats to the lucky people who won a pot at the silent auction!  Students had the option to select an art project (canvas painting, skateboard deck, clay bowl or pencil case) and worked on it during lunchtime art sessions. The students' artworks were on display in the Art Show at the fete for their family and friends to admire and after the fete they could take home their masterpiece.

It makes me so happy when students bring in their own artwork from home to show me and their peers in the Art Room - it's always so special.

The first ever fully painted film!

Image
As many students would know, Vincent Van Gogh is one of my all time favourite artists! I was VERY excited to hear the news that a documentary film of Van Gogh's life is in developments. However this isn't just a normal documentary - keep reading below to find out why this film is so special and exciting... A Polish painter and film director are planning to create the first fully painted feature film ever made. 'Loving Vincent' will be made entirely of animated paintings in the swirling style of Van Gogh. The film will incorporate over 120 of Van Gogh's paintings, animated and brought to life. Visit the link below to watch a trailer which gives you a taste of what's to come (it's pretty cool!) http://join.lovingvincent.com/#trailer The film, directed by Polish painter Dorota Kobiela and filmmaker Hugh Welchman, will be told entirely through the images and characters Van Gogh brought to life in his artworks, including the starry nights, th...

The OOPS artists have been enjoying their weekly art lessons! We have a new Portrait Selfie Frame addition to the Art Room this year - Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'.  Be sure to pop in with your family after school sometime to show them what you have been working on in the Art Room, say hello to Jacinta and and get your funny photo taken in The Scream or the Mona Lisa!
