Matisse Fishbowls

Image
These mixed media artworks were created by the Prep students. The students looked at the artist Henri Matisse and his famous goldfish paintings. They studied the artist Henri Matisse's famous goldfish paintings. As a class we discussed Matisse's use of the art elements of colour and pattern and how it was effective. The students used watercolour paints and the crayon resist technique for the background. They created their own unique table and gold fish bowl out of paper collage. The students worked with great focus and demonstrated precise cutting and glueing skills.

Recycled Art

Students in lunchtime Art Club have been a great help sorting and organising areas of the art room. Here are some projects we have created together using recycled materials from the art room.

The Year 5 students have been working hard on the first of their Term 4 Landscape projects. For this project the students have been learning how to mix tints and shades of a colour, applying them in layers to create a landscape.

Modgiliani Portraits

The Year 3 and 4 students have been working with great maturity and focus during our Term 4 Portraits unit. A highlight of this unit has been our chalk pastel portraits. Using the soft chalk pastels and blending techniques the students created these Amedeo Modigliani inspired portraits. The students learnt how to use a grid format to ensure their portraits had the quirky elongated spacing like that of Modigliani.

Rizzi Self Portraits

The Year 1 and 2 students have been such focused artists during our introduction to cartooning. This term the students will be learning lots of cool cartooning tips and tricks, starting with carictature self portraits inspired by cartoonist, James Rizzi.

Abstract Sculptures

The Year 6 students have been enjoying their Abstract Sculptures Unit. There were a few steps to this project, first the students had to plan their sculpture. Next they used wire and foil to create the initial abstract shape, then covered it with plaster strips to make it thicker, it also had to have weight distributed eventually to ensure it stood up on the wooden display stand. The final step was to add colour.
