Cartoon Self Portraits

Jackson Pollock Inspired Artworks

Image
The Foundation students had lots of fun creating these authentic and original abstract expressionist paintings. The students took inspiration from Jackson Pollock, who was an American abstract expressionist painter, famous for his ‘action paintings.’ Instead of careful brush strokes, Jackson Pollock dripped, poured and splattered paint over the canvas. Using just the three primary colours, red, blue and yellow the students got to create their own Jackson Pollock inspired action paintings. Instead of splattering the paint everywhere like the famous artist did, the Foundation students used a marble rolling technique. There were lots of discussions about the amazing new colour combinations that were created as the colours evolved on the page. Silhouette Trees

Image
The Year 1 and 2 artists have been learning about silhouettes. They created these mixed media artworks using charcoal and balck paint. There were some interesting art analysis discussions taking place during the creation of these artworks. Some students said they heard spooky night time sounds when they viewed their artwork. Some students said they felt like something was going to jump out from the page! What do you feel when you look at our Silhouette Tree artworks? These words were added to the Art Room Word Wall : Silhouette; the dark shape and outlines of something against a lighter background.  Mixed Media; a technique involving the use of two or more artistic media or materials (such as paint, pencil, collage, pastels)that are combined in the one artwork.
