1KD Pro Hart

There was lots of excitement as the students of 1KD entered the Art Room on Monday morning. 1KD were the lucky first class to have their Pro Hart carpet creation lesson.
Before we touched any carpet or food our first step was to create a plan on paper. 
Our piece of carpet is ready to go with the dragonfly outline.  
Everyone was super excited to see how the food soaked into the carpet - here is a student applying the tomato sauce body for the dragonfly. 

We had two 'sauce painters' to spread out the tomato sauce on the body. 


Using an egg flip to make sure the lemon eyes were pressed in place.

Three students working well as a team to carefully apply the mayonnaise to the wings - they focused on getting it right inside the lines. 
Two students adding on the spaghetti to the body! This created a bumpy textured look - during the artwork reflection stage at the end of the lesson, one student said "the spaghetti looked like the dragonfly's body was wiggling all about!"

Zany Zebras

The Prep students created these mixed media Zany Zebra artworks after visiting real zebras on their zoo excursion earlier in the term! The students learnt that the art term 'mixed media' means to create an artwork incorporating more than one art material (or medium). For their Zany Zebra artworks the students used the following mediums; painting (with a focus on warm colours), drawing (an introduction to cartooning) and paper collage (for the grass trimming). The students even mounted their own artworks, complete with a decorative patterned frame.

The Great Wave

The Year 5 & 6 students created these Great Wave paintings. This is one of my favourite units for the senior students! They looked at Japanese artist, Katsushika Hokusai’s ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ woodblock print. They identified and analysed the dominant art elements and principles present in Hokusai’s famous artwork, and discussed how they were effective. The students produced two Great Wave paintings of their own. For the first artwork, the students were required to keep one element the same from Hokusai’s Great Wave artwork, and then add in an entirely new element or concept. For the second painting the students used the subject matter and compositing of Hokusai’s Great Wave artwork. They then used iPads to research various art styles and movements, applying them to their own artwork. Some popular choices were Pop Art and Impressionism.

Cartoon Self Portraits

At the start of Term 1 the Year 5 artists were given the challenge of creating a cartoon style portrait of themselves. This was a fun open ended task for the students to experiment with the watercolour paints. Can you tell who these self portraits are of?
