2TR Pro Hart

2TR worked cooperatively and creatively as a class to develop this Pro Hart inspired artwork - on carpet... using food! 

Working out our design and what food items we should use for what part of the dragonfly. 
2TR decided to use red cordial for the dragonfly's body. During our observations of this step it was evident that the cordial soaked into the carpet much quicker than any of the sauces. 

Working together with classmates to make sure the cordial stayed inside the lines. 

Now to add the green jelly body! Here is one student spooning it on and the other student is spreading it out using a spatula - again great team work from 2TR! 
Students working on the mayonnaise wings - this was similar to Pro Hart's dragonfly as the wings were white also. 
Working together to spread out the mayonnaise; being extra careful to keep it inside the lines and cover every corner. 
Pouring on, spreading and patting down the rice bubbles. We put mayo on the wings before applying the rice bubbles so they had something to stick to. 
Applying four nice straight lines for the mustard legs! 
Two students carefully using vegemite to paint the ants! 
There are lots of creative things happening in this photo! One student is applying mustard antennas and the cracker eyes / marshmallow eye balls  And the other student is 'splattering' on Coke to create a messy background, similar to Pro Hart's original artwork. Wow - 2TR were full of lots of creative ideas today! 
And here is a close up of 2TR's Pro Hart inspired masterpiece. The messy background makes the dragonfly look like it is flying off the page!

Mondrian Mix Up

The Year 5 students were assigned the Creative Challenge to come up with their own artwork, incorporating their own ideas as well as seeking inspiration from Piet Mondrian's Composition' pieces. Students could use Mondrian's artwork to inspire themselves in any way they wished - some students focused on the primary colours, some played around with different shapes, others thought completely outside of the box!  In small groups students presented their artworks and shared how Mondrian inspired their new ideas. Students also had to discuss what art elements and design principles were most dominant in their artwork. I was so glad that the students enjoyed this Creative Challenge. Several students even asked if we could do it again in the future with another artist as our inspiration! Piet Mondrian 'Composition'

Zany Zebras

The Prep students created these mixed media Zany Zebra artworks after visiting real zebras on their zoo excursion earlier in the term! The students learnt that the art term 'mixed media' means to create an artwork incorporating more than one art material (or medium). For their Zany Zebra artworks the students used the following mediums; painting (with a focus on warm colours), drawing (an introduction to cartooning) and paper collage (for the grass trimming). The students even mounted their own artworks, complete with a decorative patterned frame.

Pre-Preps visit the Art Room!

The prep-preps had a special visit to the art room last week. They had a tour, learnt how to put their art smocks on and sit safely on the big art room chairs. The little artists went on a jungle adventure and had some fun using jungle paint brushes and even painted their own line artwork.
