Sunset Silhouettes

Image
Through their Architecture Art Unit, the Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring warm and cool colours and the art element of line. Here are some of our sunset silhouette Sydney Harbour Bridge and Eiffel towers artworks.

Jungle Paper Sculptures

Image
The Prep students have been learning about the differences between a collage and a sculpture. A collage is flat and can only be viewed from one angle. A sculpture is able to be viewed from different angles.  To make these jungle sculptures the students had to give their strips of paper 'feet' to be able to stand up. Some students put twists in their strips, some did zig zag folds, some even rolled their strips around a pencil to make it curly.  Painted paper... The Art Room was full of Jungle Paper Sculptures!  Can you spot any tigers hiding in the jungles?

Ultimate Texture Burgers!

Image
The Prep students are the sandwich artists behind these Ultimate Texture Burgers!  Each class worked together to brainstorm real ingredients that could go on sandwiches or burgers.  While the students dug through a variety of paper and materials, were reminded to think about the art element of texture. Texture is how something feels if touched. The Preps used words to describe the textures on their burgers, words such as soft, smooth, rough, spike, fluffy....   The students worked hard to create these collages by cutting pasting, twisting, crunching, pinching and ripping paper and materials. Everything on the sandwich burger had to represent a real food item (like cheese, meat, lettuce...) so that that meant no dirty socks or worms!  How cool are our Ultimate Texture Burgers?! They look good enough to eat! Can you guess what items might symbolise or represent real food items?

Watercolour Flowers

The Prep students enjoyed experimenting with watercolour paints to create these Georgia O'Keffee inspired flowers.

Line Artworks

The Preps created these line paintings using black acrylic paint and watercolours. We discussed all the different lines you can create in art.
