Art with Jacinta

There was lots of excitement as the students of 1KD entered the Art Room on Monday morning. 1KD were the lucky first class to have their Pro Hart carpet creation lesson. Before we touched any carpet or food our first step was to create a plan on paper.  Our piece of carpet is ready to go with the dragonfly outline.   Everyone was super excited to see how the food soaked into the carpet - here is a student applying the tomato sauce body for the dragonfly.  We had two 'sauce painters' to spread out the tomato sauce on the body.  Using an egg flip to make sure the lemon eyes were pressed in place. Three students working well as a team to carefully apply the mayonnaise to the wings - they focused on getting it right inside the lines.  Two students adding on the spaghetti to the body! This created a bumpy textured look - during the artwork reflection stage at the end of the lesson, one student said "the spaghetti looked like the drago...

Over the holidays I spotted this beautiful elephant statue. I spotted the elephant in Mount Waverley, near the Pinewood shopping centre. I was excited to spot this stunning elephant because in Term 1 the Year 1 & 2 OOPS artists created their own Sunset Silhouette artworks, during which we explored warm colours, silhouettes, sunsets/ sunrises and African animals. The very talented Foundation artists created these beautiful artworks. The students enjoyed learning about the famous French artist, Claude Monet. They looked at some of his well known paintings, focusing mostly on his Waterlilies and Japanese Bridge painting. The students were very surprised to learn that Monet was half blind when he painted it! The students discussed what sort of course appear in their own backyards at home.  To create these masterpieces the students carefully used their pointer fingers to dab onto the page; blue, green, white, pink and purple paint; similar to the colours that Monet used in his paintings. They blended and mixed tougher the paint on the page to create new shades. The final step was drawing on the bridge using brown oil pastels.

The Year 3 and 4 students worked together in art teams to create giant collaborative Indigenous symbol artworks. The students were given the challenge of mixing up their own colours. They enjoyed learning about the materials that the Indigenous artists might have possibly used to create paint many years ago (including dirt, leaves, fruit, flowers). The students used iPads to research and inspire their symbolic elements in their artworks.  The students were excited to use the new Art iPads to research traditional Indigenous symbols in artworks. They also used the iPad to digitally reflect on they own artwork at the end of the unit.
