Great Wave paintings
The Year 5 and 6 artists created these Great Wave inspired paintings. They looked at the Japanese artist, Katsushika Hokusai’s ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ woodblock print for inspiration. They identified, analysed and discussed the dominant art elements and principles evident in Hokusai’s famous artwork.
The students produced two Great Wave paintings during this unit. They were required to keep one element the same from Hokusai’s Great Wave artwork and then add in an entirely new element or concept of their own. One artwork had be done in watercolour paint and the other in acrylic paint. After completing both paintings the students compared the similarities and differences of the two paint mediums.
